ECR and UL crafting new standard for autonomy safety

Edge Case Research and Underwriters Laboratories have initiated work on a new standard, dubbed UL 4600, that covers safety principles and processes for evaluation of autonomous products, specifically their ability to perform the intended function without human intervention based on their current state and sensing of the operating environment. The standard also covers the reliability of hardware and software necessary for machine learning, sensing of the operating environment, and other safety aspects of autonomy. ECR is serving as a member of the UL 4600 standards technical panel.
